Save Our Post Office
Deborah I attended the meeting last Monday night along with about seventy five other folks. After listening to the panel assembled by the US Postal Service dodge certain questions, I decided to speak. My questions were simple. Me: What is your annual gross revenue from the Downtown Post Office? USPS: We are 10% down from last year's revenue. Me: That's not what I asked. What are the actual revenues from this post office? USPS: (After a little whispering between the panelists) For the 45 weeks of this current fiscal year the walk in revenue is 1.9 million (said very demurely so as not to sound important.) Me: (to the audience) Did you all hear that? Ma'am will you please state those figures again? USPS: (again very demurely) 1.98 million dollars. Me: (to the audience) Folks, that's ONE POINT NINE EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS -- AND THAT'S JUST WALK-IN REVENUE! USPS: But we have a lot of costs associated with that including payroll, rent, utilities and product. Me: I understand that as every good business person here does as well. How many man-hours are expended to service that walk-in traffic? USPS: Five and a half man hours to put the mail into the boxes and we have two to three people on the counter during business hours. Me: (Astonished, I turned to the audience) Did you all get that? (I repeated the personnel time and the walk in revenue for the audience which drew expressions of incredulity from the crowd.) Me: How many post office boxes do you have in the downtown post office? USPS: 2,000 Me: How many are rented? USPS: 1,948 Me: (Turning once again to the audience, my expression hopefully spoke volumes because I didn't have words to express the absurdity of USPS to want to close this little cash cow.) Me: What is the square footage of your building? USPS: We are not really sure, that's handled by facilities management and we don't use the upstairs. We think the building is around 14,000 square feet. Me: What do you pay in rent? USPS: With taxes and insurance around $134,000 per year. Me: You are paying less than $10 per square foot when the current market rate for Palafox Place is $12 - $18 per square foot. And you are wanting to close this facility????? USPS: But we do not use the whole building. Me: Is the parking lot included? USPS: Yes Me: At market rate that's worth about $40 per space per month. Do you realize what a good deal the postal service has? I was astonished.
Katelyn Many buisnesses that are located in the downtown area use this post office out of nessecity. I frequent the Jordan Street Post Office and can not imagine the traffic of both Jordan and Palafox at one location. Along with the business aspect, the nostalgic aspect also arrises. The Palafox Post office is a landmark for many people coming to the Saenger theater for performances.
Stacy Our business uses the downtown post office every day.  All of our business stationary and statements have our downtown post office box printed on them.
Anon The Jordan post office is quite a bit ways off from the centrally located downtown post office, which would be a detriment to those without proper transportation. I would rather have the option of the downtown location.
JENEANE i work downtown and the post office is convenient for the downtown workers
Linda This will impact our business greatly.  We have mail each day that we bring to this post office.  Closing the post office would cause extra expenses to a small office.  We would have to change all of our stationary.
Connie Our firm uses the downtown Post Office daily and it would be a great inconvenience to  have to use another Post Office location.   There are numerous businesses  in downtown Pensacola that depend on the Post Office being conviently located to their business.   Most downtown businesses people walk to the Post Office and if they have to start driving to a remote location, many of the businesses may start using an alternative way to receive and send letters and packages.  Clsoing the Pensacola Downtown Post Office would have a negative impact on Downtown Pensacola.
Brian Closing of the Downtown Post Office is devistating for the downtown area.  I mean really, how much money are we really saving by closing that office.  On another thought, here are more individuals possibly loosing their jobs at a very bad time!
Scott This Post Office is a mainstay for the downtwon area.  Please do not close it.
Lynn HELP! DO NO CLOSE! Downtown businesses and residents need it! As a retail business, we ship alot of packages there. IF it closes, I will have to use UPS - which I do not want to do! Also, the post office brings people to Palafox and that helps retail. We have enough trouble staying in business without taking more business away!!!!!!!
Charlotte I use the downtown PO several times a month, and it's always busy when I'm there.  I believe retaining the PO is vital to the continuing revitalization efforts for downtown Pensacola.
dolly Losing the Post Office would be yet another blow to a beautiful but struggling downtown. Any city's downtown impacts the whole area. Please keep the P.O. Dolly
Pamela The post office is an entragral part of the downtown and essential for it's business activity.  The Jordan Street location is not an adequate option.  Move it if you have to, but keep it downtown.
Mike I live downtown and use the post office for both business and personal mail.  I cannot imagine not having a post office downtown and be a vibrant city.
Mike I live downtown and use the post office for both business and personal mail.  I cannot imagine not having a post office downtown and be a vibrant city.
Chuck Thee downtown post office is a vital part of downtown Pensacola, and it brings many visitors to our lovely historic area and shops.  It is an important element of our local economy and is needed for a vibrant downtown.  Please, do not move this wonderful post office.
Timothy I work downtown and any time I need to mail a package or get stamps, I walk to the DT branch.  Closing it would create more traffic during the day and inconvenience for those of us who work downtown.  It would also hurt local eateries at lunchtime since I would be more likely to eat away from DT if I have to drive to a different branch.  Currently, I drop by the PO when I walk somewhere to lunch.
James The downtown branch is vital to the business community.  They need a close  by place where they can send registered mail, etc without the necessity of getting into a car and driving to another facility.
Kathy Please do not close the post office I will soon be living downtown and the convince is to great to loose. Plus we have enough unemployed people in Pensacola we do not need to have more unemployed people.  Thank you
Doreen and Leonard If you close our downtown Post Office it will be a terrible loss to our vitalizing downtown area.  It will cause a terrible void in the core area.
Vicki America's First Place City deserves to keep it's First Post Office!!!
Susan This would be a travesty to shut this important postal service down.  It is vital to those working and living in the downtown area.
Alice Just when we seem to be getting a down town back , they do not need to close the Post Office, with the sewer system smell gone , we will grow even more . I would think the city would fight this to the end
Mary We have three post office boxes downtown and believe that having access to postal service where we we live and work is crucial.  Businesses downtown will be especially impacted by the inefficienies of traveling outside the immediate area to handle postal business.
Consuelo (Connie) I have a home office and the downtown p.o is an extention of my office.I have a po. box and have had one for years. If it were to close I would not keep a box again.By the way,I just renewed my box.If you close it down I would like my money back.
John It seems ludicrous o close a full service post office in the heart of the downtown Pensacola business district.  At worst, the Jordan Street postal location should instead be moved to the Palafox location, not the other way around.
Betty The down town post office is an extremely vital link to down town Pensacola.    WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!  It's convenience spreads much farther than just the downtown area.  Please reconsider its demise.
Holly It is awful! We need our downtown post office. We keep losing more and more businesses in Pensacola. That is a mainstay need for downtown!
Ordon's Inc Ordon's Inc has had a presence in downtown Pensacola for over 90 years. Though we no longer have a retail establishment, we have an office on Palafox and a PO Box at the Downtown Station. We believe it would be devastating to the progress that we are now seeing in our downtown community, with the Maritime Park project, the Saenger re-opening and the new restaurants and shops coming in. Additionally, more people are moving into the downtown area every day, to make it their home. A full service post office is absolutely necessary and I hope the community will come together to save it. Thank you.
Sherron This post office location is incredibly convenient and is the only office within a reasonable distance to the downtown business district.  Some people have had their PO box number for decades.  The amount of inconvenience that this closure would cause is huge.  A city without a downtown post office location is unheard of.  Plus, the building itself and the employees who work there are an important part of the atmosphere we have grown to love in Pensacola.
Scott Surely there is an alternative.  Close ANYTHING but the downtown branch.    What sort of downtown will we have without a post office?
Suzy I'll have to drive to get the mail, instead of walking like I do now.  Blab TV will have to get new letterhead and envelopes with a new address on it. The Post Office building will be empty and ugly on Palafox St.  I will miss my friends who work in the Downtown P.O.
Karen The closure of this post office will impact me personally and professionaly since I work downtown.  My office has a P O box at this post office and it would waste time and money having to drive somewhere else to pick up the mail.  I also mail personal packages frequently at this post office location and once again it would be a waste of time and money to have to drive out of this area to do my business which I handle on my lunch hour.
Lucie Closing the Post Office downtown would be very inconvenient for most of the downtown businesses.
Chrissy Everytime I walk in the place there is a line, so it seems busy enough to keep open.  My office is downtown and if I don't have the option to mail my business mailings from the DT Post Office, I'll just skip the car ride to Jordan Street (the next closest post office) and mail it UPS or FedEx instead (my time is too valuable for the $2.00 savings).  Also, where would downtown businesses keep their PO boxes?  All the other post offices in Pcola are nestled in neighborhoods and a real pain to get to. However, even if you are NOT going to close it, you could get rid of Bob (the one with 100 photos posted in his work station).  He is cranky and I always try to get into someone else's line so I don't have to deal with his attitude.  I realize he gets tired of people asking him the same questions, but if he doesn't want to deal with people, maybe he should work in the sorting station in the back or just retire early.  Ask around.  Everyone knows who I am talking about, even if they may not know his name.  He makes that kind of impression on people.
John The closure of the post office will make it extremely inconvenient to continue to use the US Pot Office for packages, certifeid mail etc.  We do not make money driving to a Post Office and will not pay someone to do so for us.  We will be more inclined to use FedEx or UPS because of the convenience. The cost of having FedEx pick up a package at our office is far less than paying an hourly employee to drive to the post office to do the same thing.
Wilma The post office is one of the pillars for downtown Pensacola.  Please do not take away one of the vital signs of our city!
THERESA This would be such a hardship for our business!  We mail customer checks 2 or 3 times a week and would no longer be able to offer that option to the customers.  Plus the personal business all of our 15 workers would have to change.  Personally if I can't use this post office I will give my business to UPS since it is more convenient to my home.  This would be a real shame.  I never go in when there are not several customers.  Please consider this when deciding the fate of Palafox post office.
Alan Closing the downtown post office will have an adverse economic impact on the south end of Escambia County and effectively kill the commerce in the area.
Robin I have worked downtown for 30 years and our office uses the downtown post office daily, I would hate to see it closed!
Stacy We need to keep downtown alive.  The post office plays a big part in the downtown development.  Business need a post office that does everything and is in the perfect location like the one on Palafox.
tammy I am an employee of wrtaylor brick company. we are one of the many business downtown. our company has a po box downtown and frequent the post office at least 2 times a week. please do not close our post office.
Diana The downtown area is a hub for professional businesses such as attorneys and accountants who make daily trips to the downtown post office.  I feel it is necessary to help to revitalize the downtown area.
Steven This office is busy and convenient and should not close.
Jerald Convience. A lot of attornies use to post office. There is a lot of attornies down town.
Matthew You cannot get rid of this post office, it is part of downtown!!   It is also very convenient for those of us that live and work downtown!!
Stuart Every city to the smallest town in the United States has a post office downtown .... what is our tourist information going to promote  " visit Pensacola the "First City" to be discovered in the new world can't even provide a "Post Office" downtown.... that's lame... it is not anything to be proud of ..... Who was the politician that let this get to this point.. maybe we should close their office!
Gordon It is a shame to close down the only post office in the heart of the dowtown business area because it is a needed convenience for business owners in order to conduct business.
Cliff I think it is critical for the continued development of the economic core of Downtown Pensacola that we keep this facility in place, in tact, and in operation into perpetuity.  Discontinuation of this facility would be as foolish and myopic as the loss of the USS Lexington.  It would undermine the vision and plans for economic growth of our downtown sector.
Elbert The branch is important to all downtown businesses.
Michael A lot of the businesses in downtown Pensacola have P.O. Boxes for their mail. I wonder if the main Post Office will have enough of them to replace the ones we will be losing at the downtown office.
Ann Our company would lose the advantage of being able to drop late afternoon mail off and know it was going out that evening.  We would be unable to do this if the mail is moved to another post office because of the time and distance.
Berniece I feel that it is so much safer getting in and out of the downtown post office as opposed to the PO on North Davis.  Parking is much more accessible. It is also more convenient to offices in the downtown area.....and as a Pensacola native, it is just another nail in the coffin of downtown Pensacola.  How can we keep a vibrant, alive downtown area without the presence of a post office.
Carole Although I don't live in the downtown area, I work on Cervantes Street.  The closest post office for me is the downtown office.  I often go to lunch in the downtown area and within 1 hour's time, it's necessary for me to use the downtown location if I want to be able to eat something also before I return to work.  There are many businesses downtown that use this postal office also.  They provide services such as the passport application location too.
Terry would negatively affect our business,  we send many people to the post office for money orders
Mimi I work downtown and use the post office almost daily.
Scott I am concerned that the businesses and residents will no longer have convenient access to postal services. It will be a significant loss to the Downtown area!
Elizabeth We need this post office as a base to our thriving downtown.  it is a staple to the area and a pleasant building.  it belongs there, and we need to keep it there.  it is used and appreciated by so many people and will continue to grow in demand as our entire downtown grows.
Eddie My office has been downtown for 25 years.  We use the downtown post office every day.  To close it will cause a hardship to my downtown business.
Ashley Our business uses this location and is very perfect location!!!
Libby closing our postoffice would create a real hardship for all of downtown business.  please don't!
Diane I have a small business that has been located downtown for 16 years. It is essential to the efficient functioning of my business to have quick and easy access to postal facilities and to the P. O. Box which I have maintained all these years.
Candy We need it downtown.  There is not another post office close by and we have to have certified's date stamped almost on a daily basis.
Ann C. All the business and people living in the area really depend on the post oppice.  It would cause a great hardship to all the people that depend on the convient location of the downtown office.
Danielle One more empty, historic building, is not needed in downtown Pensacola!
Sherry  WELLS GLASS COMPANY This is very convenient  for all P'cola business's.
Brenda I use the Downtown Pensacola Post Office location on a weekly basis.
Heather Our firm uses the downtown post office on a continous basis. Please consider.

Deborah I utlize the downtown branch of the post office several times a week and every time I'm there, there is a line. Our offices are downtown and we do not have the staff for me to be gone for long periods of time. For me to utilize another location would require I leave my office unattended for too long a period of time so I would probably elect to utilize another carrier; i.e., FedEx or UPS rather than the postal service for my deliveries.
Dennis Cost to small business of changing mailing address on company collateral.    Environmental impact of having to drive to pick-up mail
Karyn A post office downtown is necessary for a vibrant downtown. This would be a huge blow.  We need to FIGHT!
Debra Our business (Fabre Engineering & Surveying) has been located in downtown Pensacola over 28 years.  It is imperative we continue to have the Downtown Post office in order to receive our mail on a timely basis and to be able to take mail to the downtown branch without it causing more time and mileage for the business to incur.  In times like these we are also trying to stay in business.  The Downtown Post Office Branch is a very big part of all Downtown Businesses.
Sara I just moved to downtown pensacola and admittedly, since the post office was right within biking/walking distance of my new place, that was just one more reason (and a fairly large one at that since I go to the Post Office daily for my ebay business) to move here.  I'm sure all of the businesses located downtown will have trouble with this.  Most southern downtowns have a post office!!!!  Just when downtown pensacola was finally growing again, now this happens.
Carolyn Located in the heart of the BUSINESS DISTRICT/No Rhyme or Reason for this action!!!!!!!!
Matt THis will hurt allthe Downtown businesses
LOUISE I live on Garden Street and use a wheel chair and am on a limited income.  What are my alternatives?
Ralph To lose the downtown post office would be a very  inconvenient thing for  the people who live  here, but  much worse for the many businesses and offices  located down town.
R Clark I have held the same p. o. box number for over 40 years. To lose that number would be extremely expensive in new office supply costs. The convenience provided by the current downtown location allows me to visit on a daily basis for picking up and mailing items. If the location is closed, it will force me to look at other options for more of my daily communications, including e-mails, fedex and ups.
Maureen Many of the PO boxes have been removed from the downtown area.  if you close the downtown post office, we will be forced to use FedEx & UPS more often since they do maintain drop off boxes.  Also, we will miss the most wonderful postal staff.
Anne Marie If this Post Office is closed, the businesses downtown, including those connected with the Court system, are going to suffer greatly.  This will mean time lost from work to make the trip to the nearest location in addition to extra driving expenses for the afternoon runs.   Please keep this branch open.
Laura Downtown businesses and residents need the convenience of a downtown post office. The employees at the downtown office are some of the nicest, most professional I've seen at any office. The building the post office currently occupies is a jewel on Palafox. Please don't close it down!
Rebecca Please do not close this office.
Adrianna The Pensacola Downtown Post Office is a vital part of downtown business and commerce.  Please don't close it!!!!
Sandra J The closing of the downtown post office will have a big negative impact on all the business located in the downtown cord. These business use a carrier service to pick up mail for our post office box and drop off out going mail daily. It would be too expenses to have the carriers go to Jordan Street or the East Hill post office.
Radim Since our Art Praha Gallery at 124 S. Palafox Place receives and sends large amount of items through the post office and our P.O. Box, this could add to the list of reasons why we might decide to relocate the gallery from downtown, possibly even away from Pensacola.
Dory Keep the downtown branch open...we need it.
Gregory I work downtown and closing the Downtown PO will force me to drive several miles north to East Hill or Jordan St. instead of walking to the PO as I do now.
Delories The downtown post office brings much needed foot traffic to the Palafox corridor.  Post office patrons help financially support other downtown retailers, restaurants, etc.
Marcia It is a convenience for employment and personal reasons.
Rozalia The historical location of the post office is very convenient to all downtown businesses, as well as it has a historical value.
Peter This would be just another horrible blow to this area!
Kathleen I Uniquely this comes at an interesting growth time in Pensacola where businesses (LIVE HERE WORK HERE) and new residences are emerging to 32502. A shut down of this office and the post office boxes would be an injustice to the all the planning that has been happening during the last 5 years.
Helen Loss of employment, not enough PO boxes, longer wait times, senior citizens and people who do not drive....able to receive their mail/packages?

Susan For those of us that us a P. O. Box Jordan Street is too far away.
Cheryl The Escambia County Board of Commissioners and its administrative offices have relied on the service, both for its Post Office Box mail and courier delivery, since the establishment of the Downtown branch.  It is an essential part of our operation, as well as the other elected officials (Clerk of the Circuit Court, Supervisor of Elections, Property Appraiser, and Tax Collector) in the Escambia County Government Complex.  In addition, the Downtown branch services the core business area of the City of Pensacola.  I support all efforts to keep the Downtown Post Office open and operational.
Dick our community is staking millions on its top goal of building a vibrant urban center .... a post office is a key component of any center city and must not be closed
Auriette My husband and I both work downtown. We frequently use the downtown branch to mail packages and buy stamps. We also ordered a passport through the downtown branch last year. In addition, my organization uses the downtown branch for mailing packages and certified documents. I believe it is important to have a full-service branch within walking distance of the many businesses downtown, both for the businesses themselves and the employees.
Eleanor I can walk to the Post Office which saves having to get out of the office to take the mail.  I can't imagine downtown without the Post Office.  Please reconsider!!!!
Denise We are residents of downtown and have used the post office for 15 years. It's convenient and forms a core for downtown. I've never been there when there hasn't been a long line. I post something at least once a week but see many people mail dozens of letters from firms that must be in walking distance. Having a post office is a necessity to keep a vibrant downtown.
Carolyn The downtown post office is the best, friendliest post office I have ever experienced.  I use it over any other whenever I have the opportunity.  I hope the employees would at least be kept because they are the best.  I also hope it remains open because it is so convenient to my downtown dealings.  I am also sure it brings people to the downtown area that might not otherwise stop to look aroung downtown.
Caron We use the downtown Post Office for all of our mailing--it's convenient to our business, very accessible, and crucial to the growing downtown area.

Robyn This the most convenient Post Office Branch for ALL downtown businesses and residents.  How do promote to attract residents and businesses downtown if there is no DOWNTOWN Post Office?!  It makes no sense not to have a Post Office DOWNTOWN - - JUST LOOK AT A MAP - - Jordan Street is not in close proximity to Downtown Pensacola.
Jessica Why close the downtown post office?? It is convenient and a part of locale. I use it frequently!!
Ashley The downtown Pensacola Post Office is not only a historic landmark but is also a home to our downtown businesses.  Without it, I fear that downtown businesses will be abandoned and less thriving. PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE IT! Close one that is in a less desirable area or less used. PLEASE!
LISA This is the Business Disctrict!
Deb As a downtown business it is very important to us that this post office stay open. Meadows' Jewelers supports having the post office stay open for community and business purposes.
Mike i think the post office is a vitel part of downtown pensacola and i would be very sad if it wherent there
Virginia working 8-5 does not allow me time to visit the post office in my home area. having the facility open downtown truly helps so many of us working downtown. closing the post office is not condusive to growing downtown!
Ric As a business manager I consider it vital to have a post office in the downtown area.
To avoid the loss of P.O. boxes downtown, there has to be a way to keep the mail delivery to the boxes and, if necessary cut the other mail services from the downtown location.
Beth Our business is located downtown and we have daily postal needs.  With so many law firms, CPA practices and other businesses as well as retail estabishments--DOWNTOWN NEEDS ITS POST OFFICE!!!!!!!
Anon I work downtown, and am also involved with several community based non-profit organizations.  All of these organizations (and my employer) use the downtown location for ingoing and outgoing mail, as well as passport, PO Box  and shipping services.  Moving and/or eliminating this branch from the downtown main corridor while negatively impact the Pensacola downtown community, as well as all of these local institutions who rely on it for daily mail services.

William A. This is such a central and important business location.  It seems it might be a better idea to expand this one and maybe close another one.  How will the closing of the downtown post office reflect on our 'welcoming business climate' as we try to attract businesses who may be interested in relocating to downtown Pensacola?  I know we all need to cut back somehow, but why cut the areas that could be part of the attractiveness to businesses who could help our economy?
Anon One word comes to mind when thinking about closing the downtown post office - INSANE! What rocket scientist even has the audacity to make such a suggestion. The impact upon downtown businesses would be tremendous. One of the attactive reasons for locating in any downtown area is proximity to a post office. Moving services provided by the downtown station to Jordan Street would adversely effect the productivity of every business that currently uses the downtown station. The Downtown Pensacola Post Office needs to be removed from the list of possible closures. Closing it would be a stupid move. If you want to save money, get the USPS to first can Saturday delivery. That would cust costs by somewhere around 17% all things being equal. Do the obvious first then consider closing branches.
John My wife and I own the building directly across Palafox from the downtown USPS branch, which contains office space, restaurants and our residential loft. As an architect, planner and downtown property owner, I find the closing of the downtown branch to be a travesty. Institutions of this sort are extreemly important to the cultural fabric of the downtown environment and provide a much needed service to the businesses and residents. Closing of the branch will create hardships for those of us who live downtown,       especially the disabled, elderly and disadvantaged. Closing the branch will be a giant step backwards for downtown Pensacola, and the reqular, long time customers of the branch will most probably take a different approach on their patronage of the Postal Service.
John Please concider short term and long term economic impact of this decision before moving forwad.
William I live downtown and operate two of my businesses through shipping packages out of this branch. Not having it there will cause me added time an expense as well as taking away a local landmark from our community.
Michelle Downtown office provides a vital service to the people who work downtown, including myself.  Allows us to utilize their services during the workday.  Without a downtown office, I am much more likely to utilize UPS or FedEx.  The contract station by my house has already been closed, leaving me with the downtown branch as my office of choice.  The more inconvenient the USPS makes using their services to the public, the less they will be used and they will continue to lose $$.  Downtown PO boxes are also very convenient for downtown workers and residents.
Shirley It would be a hardship if we no longer had a post office downtown for those of us who work downtown.  It was very inconvenient when the mailboxes were taken away not long ago, but this would be even worse.
Terri I work in downtown Pensacola and walk to the Downtown Post Office at least twice a day. There are always many people there, getting their mail from their boxes, going to the counter to ship their packages or buying stamps etc. This is a very busy post office that all the downtown businesses as well as other patrons use and I can't imagine what will happen if it closes. What kind of message would we be sending to visitors when they come downtown and see that "The Post Office" is closed. Doesn't send a message that the town is growing now does it? Let's scare all potential new citizens or visitors away. Sounds like a plan. All sarcasm aside, I do not want the Downtown Post Office to close. Please, please keep it open.  Thank you
Jon Downtown isn't downtown without a post office. I use it a good bit. We don't need any more vacancies downtown.
Barbara Closing this Post Office will mean a MUCH GREATER inconvenience for me as this office is faster, closer and friendlier than Jordan Street or Old Corry Road offices.
William Every city needs a downtown post office, if not for any other reason than its part of our history.
Bill No American city should be deprived of its downtown post office.  This is the hub of business activity in Pensacola, Florida.  I believe Saturday delivery should be sacrificed before our downtown post office.
Bruce My major concern is the Postal Service has been running in the red for many years.  Many of us have wondered when, or if anyone, would ever wake up and take the action necessary to put the service onto more solid footing.  We hate to see old things pass, but if they are unprofitable one of two things must happen, 1) either shut the unprofitable operation down or 2) continue to lose money.  The Pensacola branch is not unlike many other non profitable operations within the Postal Service.  What makes it any different than any one of the others other than it is in our back yard?  It is time to accept the fact we can not have it all, we all must feel some pain to make this work.  My support is with the Postal service and their decision to cut back on non profitable operatio0ns.
Luther and Marlene As a downtown Pensacola resident we need a post office that is conventiently located near our residence.
James Closing this Post Office will cause added traffic congestion at nearby locations that are unable to handle increases in volume. This will lengthen lines and curtail productivity of public workers who are already overburdened with work due to vacant  positions that cannot be filled at present.
Lee Affordable Health Insurance uses this Post Office for alot of our business & personal needs.
Shandra The downtown business and their employees have the convenience of the downtown branch. Also the tourist have the convenience of dropping postcards or packages purchased from our downtown businessess in the post office as they stroll the downtown area.
Lanier Sailing Academy We send & receive hundreds of course materials that cannot be done via email.  The closing of this office will make it more time consuming to send & receive these items & that takes us away from our business.
Megan Closing the downtown location will have an immediate adverse impact on my employer as well as those local businesses around me.  We use this post office location every day.  Driving to the nearest location - a round trip of six miles - will increase our cost of doing business which will have a negative impact on the clients we serve.  Additionally, much of the work we do in the legal industry is time-sensitive.  Having a location close to our office and the courthouse is a necessity.  Please save the downtown Post Office!
Kevin This office is one of the best looking and efficiant post offices around. Why close the ones that work the best? No sence!
jeff the downtown location has always been the most convient . I do alot of downtown business.
Michelle This is a landmark for Pensacola.  There are many businesses and residents that utilize this location, closing it means a further drive to another location.  This isn't fair to the people in the downtown Pensacola area.  Please keep our dowtown branch open.
Roger Restaurants, shops, law offices, banks, government offices.  What other post office has such a vital and concentrated list of customers?
Cindy all of company business reply is already printed for the downtown address, and it will be a HUGE expence to have all of that changed. Our business depends on that service and we also pay for a runner service for the box service as well. We vote not to move the post office. Thanks cindy
elizabeth Not having a downtown Post Office would impact the non profit for which I work. Our office is located downtown, our PO Box is there as well, and I use the Post Office downtown every week. It is convenient not only for the business for which I work, but also for my own personal use.   Having a Post Office is part of what makes a downtown a downtown.
Karen The Downtown Post Office is very centrally located for the businesses in this area.  It would have a huge impact on the businesses if it were to be closed.  Drug Free Workplaces goes and conducts business in the Downtown Post Office 2 to 4 times a day.  It would be hard to get to any other post office, would increase the time spent away from the office, added money on gas to drive to another one and decreased work production done in the office.  Please do not close the Downtown Post Office.      Karen Smyth
Mike This would be a further deterent to business growth in Pensacola's CBD.  We desperately need to keep services such as the posal service readily accessable to our citizens.  Downtown postal facility is very pedestrian friendly and conducive to less drive in traffic.
Chuck The downtown Post Office is a "Green" facility in that it is conveniently located in the heart of downtown, within walking distance of many businesses that use its services on a daily basis. Walk-around, condensed communities are the future alternative to a gasoline-centric society. The Post Office should remain in its current location.
Brenda The downtown Post Office is vital to our downtown business.  We rent a Post Office Box and pick up daily.
Alicia I find this location to be convenient as I needed to on drop off business mail after hours several ocassions.  Although I do find that the staff is not very friendly at this specific location.  Thank you.
Jan This branch is "absolutely" necessary for the downtown businesses and community!!!
mary Assuming the financial difficulties that the downtown location is currently experiencing is a direct result of our weakened economy, we can hope that in the near future that business will increase and it will again be able to carry its own weight.  Closing the DPO is a permenant solution to a temporary problem and would cause undo inconvienence on the many patrons that depend on this location to conduct vital functions of their businesses...that effects our entire city and not just the patrons of the DPO.  Thank you.
Pamela Please do not let this happen to our historic and well utilized original Post Office.  This is the best location we have and needs to stay open.  It is in the middle of the downtown center and should remain open as long as we have the Federal Courthouse, County Court House and the majority of priviate office business here.  There may be another location that should be considered, but not this one.  Please listen to the people who use this facility.  Thank you,  Pam White
Bo a vibrant business area needs easy access to P.O. boxes and shipping , the loss of the downtown facility would impact many professionals that require early access to their mail
Richard I always use the Downtown branch and I always have to wait in line.  I am very surprised this branch is on the list!
darlene We have a downtown office & also are at the Pensacola Chamber meeting room alot. We would miss having the Post Office for our business & personal use.
Dick I believe that the closing of the Post office in downtown would be a major blow to the business community downtown. ther should be another alternative even if it includes public private parternership yo keep some if not all of the services here especially the post office boxes.
Brian This will deprive the historic downtown area with one of its most recognizable landmarks and will hurt local businesses.
Pamela This just should not happen.  It is critical for the businesses and consumers in the downtown area.  Plus, it is vital to the historical landscape of Pensacola.

Jean Downtown is a vital entity in Pensacola with many corporate and retail businesses.  A Post Office is necessary.
Stacie Please consider keeping the post office downtown open as it is part of our daily operations as an employee in the downtown area.
Larry My wife uses the downtown PO at least once a week.  Closing it would cause a personal inconvenience.
Lois This is a bad decision. We need a downtown PO!!
Stan A downtown PO is absolutely necessary!
Dixie Downtown is the fastest growing neighborhood in Pensacola--how does it make sense to close an important neighborhood facility? Not to mention the commercial heart of the area. I am opening a business soon and wanted to rent a P.O. box there.
Natalie This post office is vital to the businesses that need postal services.   It is within walking distance of many small businesses and it is extremely convenient to do business.   In the past few months, we saw another post office close in Cordova Park (but that was understandable) and it was accepted.   Please do not take away from the core of downtown Pensacola.   This post office has great value to the heart of Pensacola.
Hope You must have a post office downtown to be a viable city!
hannah Why not cut or limit the hours if necessary, but still have it available down town.
Evon it is very important to the growth and development of a prosperous community to have a vibrant downtown and a big part of that is having a downtown Post Office especially for downtown businesses and residents.     Please don't close our downtown Post Office.
jef I use that post office often.  It's convient to my homw and work.  Im pretty sure the people working there don't want to loose their jobs
Oliver This is integral part of Downtown as well as Pensacola. One of the many reasons I go to downtown on a weekly basis if not twice.
JAMES the loss of the post office downtown will change the complexion of downtown completely. it is a center for downtown. all of the activity of people  coming and going from the post office along with the interaction makes downtown the pinnacle of this  area. it also allows for people to meet and greet which  gives pensacola such a friendly atmosphere. we need to keep the post office downtown.
Connie I use this post office daily.  It will be a great inconvience to my business not to have the service.
buzz Less convenience will result in less P O Box usage which will result in increased home delivery expense.
Barbara That post office is vital to our downtown businesses.  Why make it harder on small businesses?  I thought we (pensacola) were trying to encourage businesses to the downtown area.    Don't close the downtown Post Office!
Kathie This post office is vital to the Downtown business community.
Chad This Post Office is important to the businesses downtown and is vital to the efficiency of these businesses.  Please do not close this office!
Nathan A. The post office should not be closed or moved from the current location. I have a presentation to make at the meeting.
C.J. It's a vital service for downtown Pensacola.
Samantha I am a downtown resident with a disabled spouse.  The suggested alternate site would be extremely difficult for him to use.  We use the downtown location weekly, usually more than twice a week, to move this office would be a hard ship on many residents of the downtown area as well as make it harder to keep businesses in the downtown area.  Please rethink this matter.
Jeanne This branch has always been very busy, so obviously it is a viable location. For those of us and those businesses in the downtown area, this branch is convenent and the staff very helpful. I believe it provides a needed service to a large portion of the community and should remain open.
J It's a special landmark and to lose it would be history lost.  Thanks!!
Mary Ellen Please keep this post office open, it is so important to downtown businesses.
Stephen My p.o. box is a safe and secure way to get important mail ,that may be stolen from a home mail box.The distance from my home is very short.I have had mail stolen from my mail box at home, and none since I got my p.o.box downtown.   The people who work there are one of a kind ,and very friendly.Skip and Randy have become good friends with me.I look forward to seeing them when ever I go to that Post Office.   keep it Please!.   Respectfully,   Stephen A. Maniscola  -(U.S.A.F. ret.)
carla this would be terrible for downtown Pensacola
Beth The Post Office Down Town benefits all the working and business people, we need this to stay open......
Meghan PLEASE SAVE THE DOWNTOWN POST OFFICE!!!  The downtown Post Office evokes a feeling of nostalgia for a bygone era when many hopes and dreams rested on the simple delivery of mail. From the astonishing, break-neck speed of the elusive Pony Express riders, to the modern miracle of the  overnight airmail express system, the endearing postal "promise of delivery" still sets our hearts racing with anticipation. It captures our collective  imagination. The potential closing of the downtown Post Office jeopardizes our worth as a community of historical integrity. This is the same mentality that has plagued us as a tourist mecca yearning for a national identity but lacking the necessary vision. Let us commit to a renewed spirit of collective imagination to recapture the vision necessary to save the downtown Pensacola Post Office.
LF This is a vital part of our downtown success - we need to keep this post office in this location!!
Evelyn Even though I don't reside in Escambia County, I've found the Post Office very convenient when shopping or attending functions in downtown, Pensacola. The Post Office has also been very involved in supporting the community. A good example was when the Chavez stamp came out, the Post Office provided space to the Hispanic Society for our luncheon and speakers. I'm sure they have done this for many organizations. It was greatly appreciated. It would be a loss to the community if the Post Office was to be closed. They not only handled the mail but provided an educational and a culturally diverse forum for the community. I hope the Post Office wins the chance to stay open.
William As a resident of downtown Pensacola, a Post Office is an absolute neccessity.  If we are trying to make Pensacola more "appealing" to new businesses, how can we do without a post office in the heart of down town?
Laura This is a convenient and necessary location for those who work, live, and spend time downtown.  It will cost business to have to use another location.
Mary To lose the downtown post office when the push for Pensacola has been to revitalize its downtown is ludicrous.  There are too many businesses that rely on the closeness and convenience of the downtown post and to close it now would be a big mistake and would do little to draw any new commerce to our downtown.
Holly Where would i get such great service and a passport!!!
